Chapter 25

I stood looking at the woman sleeping in my bed, feeling like the luckiest bastard in the world. Gianna was curled up on her side, her dark hair fanned out on the pillow behind her, and one tanned, bare shoulder peeked out from the sheet I’d covered her with. As always, one of her long legs had escaped the confines of the bedding and rested on top.

Never in my life had I memorized a woman’s sleeping habits, but I knew Gianna’s by heart. The way she couldn’t sleep with both legs under the covers. The way she preferred resting on her left side. Even the lavender vanilla linen spray she liked to spritz on her pillow.

After quickly checking her blood sugar, I kissed her sweet cheek as softly as I could, but she stirred anyway. “Auburn,” she mumbled, and my heart swelled to twice its normal size when she smiled sleepily and blinked her eyes open. “G’morning, baby.” Her soft hand stroked through the scruff on my jaw, and I tilted into her touch.

Sitting beside her on the edge of the bed, I brushed a stray piece of hair from her face. “Good morning, my beautiful pet. Did you sleep well?”

“Mmhmm. So good.” She stretched, offering me a tempting view of her breast when the sheet slipped down.

Unable to help myself, I traced one finger around the supple curve before dragging the cover down the rest of the way. “Jesus, woman. I wish I could stay here all day and look at you.”

Her responding smirk was so sexy, it had me hardening in my pants. “I wish you could stay here all day and do other things.” Gianna slinked her hand inside my unbuttoned shirt, her fingers bumping over the ridges of my abdomen. “But you have an empire to run.”

The feel and sight of her almost had me saying screw the empire.

“You’re right,” I sighed. “Go back to sleep, sweet girl. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“It’s okay. I’ll make you breakfast while you finish getting ready for work.”

“You don’t have to—”

But in one fluid motion, she sat up, rose onto her knees, and slung a leg over mine so that she was straddling me. “I want to.”

“Far be it from me to argue with a very naked Gianna,” I told her, running my hands up and down her breathtakingly beautiful body. “I would sign over my life savings to you right now.”

“Very tempting offer, but I think I’d rather have a kiss.”

And this is why I loved her. Though I was teasing, she didn’t even bat an eye at the prospect of receiving that kind of money. All she wanted was my affection. Magdalena would have already been writing down her account number and shoving it into my hand.

Holding Gianna’s exquisite face in my hands, I kissed her, my tongue sliding in and out of her warm mouth until all I craved was her. I twisted our bodies until she was flat on her back and propped her feet on the edge of the mattress.
