At least I can finish the play now.

The last scene is me standing there, holding Autumn, alone. Crying.

Kit was wrong. That's the real ending, here. That's the way it was always going to be.

I was planning to skip school for a few days anyway, but I conveniently come down with the same virus Autumn has. I don't text Malcolm to apologize for being a hyper-controlling bitch who told him to dump his girlfriend, and he doesn't text me to apologize for calling me an untrustworthy basketcase, so I guess we're even.

I can't remember the last time I went three days without talking to him. It honestly might never have happened before.

I think maybe the worst feeling you can have is when you find out that the people who are supposed to love you think the same awful things about you that you'd convinced yourself were just in your head. That the reason you believe you're terrible isn't low self-esteem. It's not depression. It's that you're legitimately garbage. And maybe the worst part of that is how you have to look back and accept that every time you thought, just for a second, that maybe you actually weren't garbage, that's when your brain was screwing with you. That's when you were wrong.

I need a few days off to deal with that.

I email the finished play to Kit and she either likes the ending or is being nice to me because she can tell from my short email that I'm a mess, I don't know. Autumn and I sleep a lot, but she gets better before I do so I spend a lot of time sprawled out on my stomach on the couch trying to stay awake and watching her play on the floor until Baba finally takes pity on me—with plenty of comments about how she never got a day off from taking care of my mom just because she was sick—and lets me go to bed.

Anastasia sends me a few bars of something she's been working on and asks if I have any new lyrics, and how I'm feeling.

Kit designs a little book cover for our play, so we can publish it.

I just sleep.
