Chapter 9

Later that evening after Noah and I unpacked the rest of his things and finished dinner, we cuddled on the sofa under a patchwork quilt in the back parlor. Like the flames dancing in the stone fireplace before us, Noah and I wrapped our bodies around each other and glowed.

After a log crackled, I gazed into Noah’s contented face, and said, “This is where you belong—next to me.”

He kissed me then responded blissfully, “Always.”

I gladly returned the kiss. “I can see the headlines in the newspaper tomorrow, ‘Leopold moves in with Loeb to plan future murders at Treemeadow College.’”

“I think I’m more a Loeb, Nicky.”

I nibbled on his earlobe. “I agree.”

“What did you do all day while I was packing my things?” Noah asked.

“After talking to Ariella on the phone, I had a male visitor who told me something x-rated.”

“Really?” Noah’s claws unfurled.

“Back tiger.” I took a sip of my vanilla rooibus tea. “P.J., the Film major in my Directing I class, told me that Kyle, David’s son, directed porn movies on campus and David distributed them! And that Kyle is still carrying on the family tradition with Paul, Jan, Kayla, and Ricky as his porn stars!”

“Haven’t they heard of working as student aides?” Noah asked incredulously.

“My guess is they make a lot more money as porn stars. Besides, P.J. didn’t think money was their only motivation. He believes Ricky, Jan, and Kayla are doing it because they are hot for Paul, and Paul is doing it because he’s hot to see himself on film.”

Noah pulled his feet into his buttocks. “Don’t they know that Kyle will have that film for the rest of their lives to do whatever…whenever he wants with it? Not to mention that any horny kid or adult can download them onto his or her computer.”

I cocked my head. “How do you know so much about porn films?”

He smirked. “I’ve read about them on the internet.”

I returned the smirk. “I’ve read about them too.” Then I rested his head on my chest, and said like an old geezer, “Ah, kids today!”

The crease between Noah’s eyebrows deepened. “Nicky, do you think Kyle’s porn company has something to do with the murders?”

We sat up facing one another.

I tented my fingers a la Sherlock Holmes. “David didn’t know he wouldn’t live to reap the benefits of the company, or the two wills for that matter, but the murderer did. Noah, think about it, with David gone, who benefits from the porn business?”

“Kyle.”

“Right! And who benefits from the financial scores in the three wills?”

His eyes lit up. “Ariella…and Kyle.” Watson wasn’t totally convinced. “I understand why Ariella or Kyle would want to kill Loptu and Millie for their money, but why would either of them want to kill Wally?”

I nodded. “Because Wally was department head, as he never let any of us forget, when David went for tenure. According to Ariella, Wally’s lack of support for David’s tenure enraged the entire family.”

Noah took a sip of his blueberry lemongrass tea.
