Chapter Twenty

Lu

Apparently, when Elsie was on strong medication, she liked to sleep. She slept through the entire ride to the hospital, slept through her back getting stitched after numbing the area, and she even slept through the x-ray on her wrist. Ms. Jones was right when she said Elsie hadn’t broken any bones. It was just badly sprained. They bandaged it up, then left Elsie to sleep off the medication. They had told me to get them when she woke up, so they could shift her into a new position and take her vitals again, while she was awake. Mr. Neilson had left the hospital to go back to the school once they confirmed that her wrist wasn’t broken. It annoyed me no end that he didn’t even care about her enough to make sure she was alright when she woke up, but at least I no longer had to sit alone in the same room with him. I don’t think he would have left the room alive and considering Detective Swanson had decided to come along for the ride, I don’t think I would have left the hospital a free woman. I sat next to Elsie, holding onto her hand for the next hour or so. I had texted my dad in that time, to let him know what happened, and that I was at the hospital. He told me to call him when I was ready to come home. I told him that I wasn’t going to be leave Elsie until she was released, and he told me he understood. Elsie still showed no sign of waking up, so I kissed her on the forehead, before standing up to go for a walk. My phone alerted me to a text, so I paused before I got to the door. It was from Mateo.

Mateo: Queen Bee got a detention for what she did to Elsie.

Lu: Bitch! She better watch her face when I get back. I made her a promise.

Mateo: No wonder she’s been hiding behind her friends. She still thinks you’re at school. She’s been watching out for you.

Lu: Good. Please tell her that I’m going to enjoy watching her scream

Mateo: You’re a sicko.

Lu: Much like your dad.

Mateo: Bitch.

Lu: :)

I turned off my screen and put my phone back in my pocket, annoyed that Ryleigh only got a detention for deliberately injuring Elsie. I’m sure if I had done it to anyone, I would have been expelled or at least suspended for a couple of days. I really shouldn’t be surprised though, considering how much a wanker Mr. Neilson was to his daughter. I walked out of Elsie’s hospital room, heading to the nurse’s station to see if Maria had started her shift yet, but I stopped suddenly when I saw Detective Swanson talking with her. I stepped in the room behind them, and I hid underneath the window, sliding down to sit on the floor to listen. I could hear every word.

“You were the original doctor who
