A fine final move. White makes optimal use of the awkward position of the black queen. For example, Black loses his queen after 24â¦Qxf4 25.Qh7+ Kf8 26.Nxe6+, while 24â¦Qf6 is met by 25.Qh7+ Kf8 26.Ngxe6+ Kf7 27.Qh5+, and the white attack rolls on.
Black resigns.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6 6.Bg5 e6 7.Qd2 a6 8.0-0-0 h6 9.Bh4
This looks like a blunder, 9.Be3 or 9.Bf4 are the normal moves.
9â¦Nxe4 10.Qf4
A dangerous attacking move. After 10.Nxe4 Qxh4 11.Nxc6 Qxe4 there is not much in it for White.
10â¦g5
Black goes after the dark-squared bishop, accepting his crumbling pawn structure. The main line with 10â¦Ng5 has a solid reputation. Definitely not good is 10â¦Nf6? 11.Nxc6 bxc6 12.Ne4, and White has too powerful an initiative.
11.Qxe4
There are a few other possibilities: 11.Nxe4?! gxf4 12.Bxd8 Nxd8?! (simply 12â¦Kxd8 13.Nxc6+ bxc6 14.Nxd6 Bxd6 15.Rxd6+ Kc7 leads to equality) 13.Nf5! exf5 14.Nf6+ Ke7 15.Nd5+ Kd7 16.Nb6+ Kc6 17.Nxa8, and although the knight cannot get out yet, I think White is better. Less clever is 11.Nxc6 Nxc3! 12.Qd4 Nxa2+ 13.Kb1 bxc6 14.Qxh8 Qa5, and Black is fine.
11â¦gxh4 12.Nxc6 bxc6 13.Qxc6+ Bd7 14.Qf3
This looks better than the more common 14.Qe4, because it keeps square e4 open for the knight. The position is hard to assess, since both players are holding trumps: Black has the only open files for the black rooks (g and b-file) and a mighty dark-squared bishop, but his position also has drawbacks: no safe square for the king (f8 looks like the best choice) and the black central pawns are vulnerable. All in all, the platitude âbalancedâ position seems to fit the bill perfectly.
14â¦d5?
With the idea of keeping the white bishop away from squares c4 and b3. Correct was 14â¦Be7, which for the moment pulls the worst sting from the white attack.
15.Bc4!
