The restaurant is just as nice as it looked online even down to a snooty maître d' with an accent. Trevor pulls out my chair for me and pushes it in when I sit down in the plush white seat.

“Thanks,” I smile as he walks around to his side.

“Of course. I feel like we haven’t gotten to spend tons of time together since this summer.”

I laugh as I lay my napkin into my nap. “What are you talking about? We literally see each other every day. I don’t know how I would start my days without the daily coffee.”

Trevor winks as he picks up his menu and scans through it quickly. I don’t even bother opening mine because I always order the same thing at every French restaurant I ever go to. Chicken braised in wine, lardons and mushrooms. Yum.

“Your 2007 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet, Mr. Michaels,” our waiter says as he begins filling our glasses.

I raise an eyebrow at Trevor, who just winks before thanking the waiter.

“How’d you swindle them into not carding us. I know you are 21, but I most certainly am not,” I say as I lift my glass.

“Never underestimate the power of the Michaels name, Miss Pembrooke.”

I roll my eyes and scoff as Trevor raises his glass before smirking and taking a sip of his wine. We talk about how obnoxious our mothers have been lately, mine hounding me on school and his getting on him about giving up football and joining the family business. His dad is a real estate giant back home, and he feels the pressure to give up his dreams to follow in their footsteps kind of like I do with my family.

“Well at least you are able to chase your passion right now, and they can’t say anything about it. Plus, when you get drafted, I think it will really put things into perspective for them that this isn’t just a silly dream, this is within reach for you,” I say as I take one more bite of my chicken before pushing my plate away.

“If I get drafted,” he interjects.

I roll my eyes and toss my napkin at him. “Don’t pretend to be modest with me, Trev. We both know that you are phenomenal. It's okay to say it out loud,” I wink which makes him laugh.

“You always have been my biggest fan,” he says as he reaches out to hold one of my hands.

My first instinct is to pull away, but I don’t want to make things weird by making a big deal out of it, so I give him a smile that is only a little forced. His thumb strokes the back of my hand softly for a few moments as he seems to be thinking over something before he speaks again.

“Little Red, I need to tell you something. I don’t want to keep secrets either.”

My heart races in anticipation, but I do my best to school my features. He blows out a big breath and closes his eyes.

“Last night, I got fucked up.
