Chapter 14
Exercise
Whether you are in a lot of pain through adhesions and abdominal pain or in no pain at all, having a daily walk or cycle is a good idea. Both are a form of exercise and movement; they can help with not only losing weight but also trying to reduce the wind inside the stomach/bowel. I do more daily cycling than walking because my main form of transport is my bicycle. The movement helps me to relax, concentrate and keeps my mind on where I am pedalling to. I try and have somewhere to cycle to, or even walk to, every day. There maybe a few days in the year when it doesnât happen, but most days, I have one form of exercise and movement or another. The cycling is really good exercise and the journeys are sometimes better if the pain is something you want to forget about. I do one or two sponsored cycle rides each year. Even doing a cycle ride in to town that takes approximately 20â40 minutes also helps because the body is still on the go and moving. Sometimes when cycling long journeys, sweating it out also helps both losing weight and decreasing the pain. Walking is also just as good whether it is 10â15 minutes of walk or 2â3 hours of walk. Again, the body is moving and the brain is thinking. By walking, cycling, general exercise or just general movement, it will improve the situation if you are in pain because of adhesions and abdominal pain. It wonât work instantly and will definitely take time. I made myself keep moving and exercising when I was in pain because I knew it was more likely to help. If a personâs health situation can be improved by exercising in one way or another, then it should be put in to practice and be done. Making excuses and avoiding exercising is one thing I donât do if I am in pain. The one thing that people donât want to be doing, even if they are in pain, is to sit around all day and evening and do nothing. A person doing that will get really stiff and possibly put on weight. The pain is also much less likely to disappear when sitting around doing nothing, it could even make it worse. That can also mean people are going to feel sorry for themselves and just have no intentions of helping themselves. If the person is of an older age and in pain, even a small amount of movement is better than none at all. Walking around in one of the rooms in an individualâs home is better than nothing. Another thing I have been involved in and take part in is bowls, both indoor bowls and lawn bowls. I have been involved in both since 1980. In both, indoor and lawn bowls, the body moves a fair bit.
