Cats sometimes seem to notice that people are holding the toy—whether a laser pointer or feather wand. A connection is made—from toy to hand. They might see you walk to the toy closet or drawer, anticipating that play will follow. But is this a problem? Not really.

If your cat sees your arm as part of the toy, use a toy with a longer handle, or try wearing a glove while you play to make your hand less obvious to your cat. In most cases, once the toy starts moving in a way that engages your cat’s predatory instincts, they won’t be so concerned about your hand; they’ll be chasing the toy!
