Chapter Fifteen

Eleanor

Eleanor pushed an overhanging branch off the narrow path and edged past. The branch sprang back.

‘Woah,’ Logan said.

She whipped around. ‘Oh goodness, sorry. I didn’t mean for that to hit you.’

He burst out laughing. ‘No permanent damage done. If I’d known you were going to attack me, I wouldn’t have come.’

Awareness pumped through her as he grinned at her. His gaze travelled from her eyes to her lips and down before returning to meet hers. She swallowed, then held out her hand. He took it and gently squeezed it before they carried on to where the path emerged through the trees back at the campsite. If she went back to his caravan with him now, things were going to get heated – very heated. She wasn’t one to throw herself into things like that, but good girl Eleanor was on holiday. This was the time to live and love. At this moment, there was so much she loved about Logan and she wanted to make the connection physical. If he could make her feel whole and wholly loved even for a little while, she was going to grab it and cling on for dear life.

‘Oh shit, no,’ he muttered, letting go of her hand.

‘What is she doing?’ Logan peered forward through a gap in the branches.

‘It looks like she’s examining the electric hook-up.’

‘Yeah, but that’s not her pitch. Seriously, she is such an annoying busybody.’

‘Can we avoid going past her?’

Too late. A branch rustled as Logan pulled back and the woman glanced towards them. If it had looked dodgy before, surely this was even worse. After the naked-by-the-loch incident, now this. How could it appear like an innocent meeting? Eleanor fiddled with her hair. Eek. Was it mussed up? Would something in her look give away how raw and love crazed she felt? The woman squinted at them.

‘Let’s go back, so we don’t have to pass her,’ Logan whispered, tugging her in the other direction. They returned along the line of the stream rather than cutting back into the site. A few more minutes and they’d be at her tent. Not really where she wanted to go, but she didn’t speak in case the woman was still watching them.

‘Make it look like you’re going back to your tent. I could have run into you,’ he whispered. ‘Sneaking about like this is horrible but I don’t trust that woman. I can see her making a fuss, and I wouldn’t want her to go to the press or anything like that. I don’t need any bad publicity and she looks the type to cause trouble.’

Eleanor chanced a glance around. The woman was still hanging around one of
