chapter six.

“You sure about this, sis? Don’t get me wrong. I’m so happy you two are reconnecting. But just want to be sure you’re in your right mind. You a little drunk, ma’am.” Netta asked as they stood outside of the club.

“I’m sure. I promise I’m not that drunk that I don’t know what I’m getting myself into.” Serenity giggled. “It’s just... we had a really good talk in the club. Plus, you know how much I have been missing him like crazy. So, I’m going to let my heart lead me tonight.”

“I hear that, girl.” Netta snapped her manicured fingers. “Okay, okay. Well, go ahead and enjoy yourself. While doing so, think about what we talked about earlier. I believe God brought that man out here for more than just a fight to see. Just think about tellin’ him, okay?”

“Of course, I hear you.”

“Alright, my Uber is here. Let me get back to your place and relieve Ms. Sandy. Have some fun.”

“Will do. Be safe and text me once you make it.”

“Of course,”

The women shared one final hug and Serenity headed back towards Kane, who stood by the car door waiting for her. They’d both agreed that they didn’t want to end the night so soon. By the time they were on their fifth drink, he asked her to come to his room, and she happily agreed. Neither knew what the night would bring but both were ready for whatever that looked like.

With Zane opting to stay at the club a little longer, Kane instructed their driver to drop him and Serenity off and then double back later for his brother, who couldn’t seem to get enough of the New York nightlife.

The two enjoyed the ride back to the hotel in silence. The liquor had Serenity feeling free and her nervousness was long gone. She didn’t hold back one bit. Comfortably, she rested her head against Kane’s chest and got lost in his scent that she missed so much. He, too, found himself more relaxed than earlier and caught up in the moment. Leaning his head down, he kissed her forehead as he caressed her arm.

“You cold?” he asked, noticing the chill bumps that formed on her smooth skin.

“Yes,” she whispered, looking up at him. “That liquor got you hot and your driver is blasting the air tryin’ to please you but ‘bout to freeze me.”

They shared a laugh.

“Come here then,” he instructed as he removed his suit coat.

Without hesitation, Serenity climbed onto his lap and allowed him to toss the coat around her cold frame. She clung to his two-hundred-and-forty-pound frame. Kane was tall and slim, yet still muscular. She loved and missed every inch of him. Instantly, she felt warm and most importantly, safe.

It took them about thirty minutes to make it back to the hotel. Inside his room, Kane quickly helped Serenity out of her heels. By now, the effects of the alcohol were kicking her ass and she was stumbling everywhere.

“You want one of my T-shirts to get comfortable?”

“Yes,” she answered, stretching her limbs.
