"Is everything okay?" I answer my phone as soon as it's time for my lunch break and sit in my former chair in Aidan's office, taking a deep breath. Julie's school never calls. Calls never happen.

"Good morning, Ms. Burton. Julie has a fever and vomited her snack."

I rise as soon as the words leave her mouth.

"I'm on my way."

I hang up the phone and walk through the store until I find Aidan. The girls left for lunch just minutes ago when my phone rang. Today, I only came to check some paperwork, but I'm already working in my own shop.

"Kate... what's wrong? Did something happen?" he questions as soon as I reach him.

"Julie has a fever; I have to go pick her up," I explain gently, clutching the keys to my car in my hand. "Can you take care of everything?"

"Of course. Go ahead."

I quickly exit and get into my car. The school is only a few minutes away; I'm thankful for that. The teacher smiles when she hands my daughter over to me, and she asks me to keep her updated. I decide to take her to the doctor when I see that she's sleeping and the fever is quite high.

I wait for a few minutes, trying to keep her awake, but Julie is beyond sleepy.

"Julie McConnell?"

I rise as a nurse calls us. I walk with my daughter to a room and swallow hard when I see a dark-haired man entering afterward. Oh, Jesus.

"Excuse me..." The words trail off as Cameron raises his face and sees me. "Oh, Kate, um, what's wrong with your daughter?" He approaches and takes Julie from my arms. Cameron gently puts her on the soft bed and looks at me.

"I'm sorry, it's... she was at school, and the teacher called me saying she had a fever and was vomiting. She was fine this morning. It happened suddenly," I explain slowly and walk to my daughter. I hold her little hand when she opens her eyes. "Hi, princess! How are you feeling?"

"My tummy hurts, mommy..." She turns, lying on her side in bed. Grimacing, she vomits right in front of Cameron. Thank God it doesn't hit him. "Sorry."

"It's okay, Julie. Now, can I examine you?" He smiles warmly seconds before a woman enters and cleans up the mess.

Cameron jokes and makes Julie smile several times, so I relax a bit, realizing what a good doctor he is.

"Julie has a gastrointestinal infection. It's common when she eats something different, or maybe even spoiled. I'll prescribe some medications, and she'll be under observation for a few hours, taking medication. Is that okay?" Cameron informs me as he writes. "Is she allergic to any medication?"

I answer all his questions while holding Julie in my arms. Cameron smiles when my daughter leans over and touches his face.

"You're handsome," she murmurs.

I smile as I see Cameron blush.

"Thank you, princess, but you're much more." He winks and stands up, handing me the papers. "I'll stop by observation to see her in a little while.
