Chapter Eight

* * *

The advice her aunt gave, everything became clear. Geneva realized she had been incredibly selfish and rude. However, she knew what to do. It started with apologizing to many people and, most notably, bringing up her grades. Geneva hugged her aunt tightly and whispered, “Thank you, Aunt Charlotte, for helping me figure this out.”

Charlotte smiled, hugged her niece back, and replied, “No problem, sweetheart.”

Geneva took a deep breath. Then, after washing her face, she went downstairs with her aunt. When they reached the family room, Charlotte cleared her voice, “Lori, Darren, someone's back.”

Lori and Darren looked up from what they were doing and were greeted by their daughter's smiling face. They were happy but a little cautious. Geneva walked up to where her parents were sitting; she threw her arms around her parents and hugged them tightly, and the tears began. Darren and Lori let out a big sigh of relief. They embraced their daughter back they and Lori looked up and whispered to her sister, “Thank you.”

Charlotte smiled. She was glad that she helped clear up the problem that had lingered. Charlotte saw herself out as to not interrupt the loving family moment.

After they came apart from their hug, Geneva said tearily, “Mom, Dad, I'm so sorry for the way I acted. I was just confused; I didn't know how to express it.”

Darren nodded. He knew well teen angst. Lori said, “Apology accepted.”

Lori paused, and Darren added, “However, you do know that you have a lot of work ahead of you, not to mention apologies.”

Geneva nodded. Geneva brought up before leaving the living room, “I decided I build a mother-daughter relationship with Isabelle and get to know her. I'm glad I know the circumstances. However, I'm also glad to have you guys as parents.”

Geneva added, “I want to tell the rest of the family about Isabelle. They have the right to know who she is.”

Lori and Darren smiled. They were glad that the monster had left and their sweet daughter was back. A few days later, all the family members had gathered; even her older cousins were there as well. They were all chatting and wondering what the news about was. Only Charlotte knew, but she kept silent. Meanwhile, Geneva and her mom were getting drinks ready in the kitchen. As they poured the glasses, Geneva asked, “Mom, you are okay with me continuing the relationship I have built with Isabelle, right?”

Lori put the cider bottle on the counter; as she hugged her daughter, Lori whispered I'm ok with this silly girl.”

Geneva smiled, and Lori knew it was time to tell the whole family about Isabelle. Before Geneva could say anything, Lori saw and sensed Geneva's trepidation. Lori said, “Are you ready to tell Isabelle and our family but don't know who to tell first, right?”

Geneva nodded, and Lori said, “I'll help.”

Geneva smiled and said, “Thanks, mom.”

Geneva went with Lori to the living room. When Lori and Geneva got to the front of the living room, Lori cleared her throat, which got everyone's attention.
