Samson wanted to grab Sorcha and whisk her away, he wanted to stay in a cave with her for as long as possible. He wanted to deserve the forgiveness that she’d offered so sweetly. Wanted to believe her when she said that their love could overpower Charlotte’s voice in his head. But what if it wasn’t possible, what if he was destined to hurt her because he was an undeserving monster?

He was almost thankful for the interruption of the meeting so he didn’t have to make any decisions yet.

The meeting room was in the base of the pyramid and obviously used for nothing other than this sort of thing. It had a large table in the center with a variety of mismatched chairs around it. The walls were bare except for a few weapons that had seen better days and a map of Atlantis from before it sank. Back when it was just another part of what is now Florida.

Ian and Katherine were seated at the head of the table looking a bit more rumpled and satisfied than they had earlier. Sparah was to Ian’s right and Thorn on his left. Saul sat next to Sparah so Samson pulled out a seat for Sorcha next to Thorn and took the one on her other side. Felix remained standing but surprisingly, he didn’t leave the room. Apparently guarding the door in case anyone tried to disturb them.

“Sorcha, I take it you have regained all that you lost,” Ian asked.

“Yes, unfortunately I was the one to give Elantra the Stone,” she admitted. “I wanted the thing safe from ever landing back in the hands of a vamp, I thought she would be able to do that better than anyone.”

“She probably is,” Thorn said. “I never would have guessed she’d use the damn thing though.”

“She’s become unpredictable in her old age,” Sparah agreed.

“What does that even mean? How do we possibly prepare?” Sorcha huffed in frustration.

Samson grabbed her hand under the table, knowing she was likely feeling responsible for the current situation. But he knew no one here blamed her. It didn’t matter if she had been tricked into giving Elantra the Stone, it wasn’t what had set Elantra off on this crazy path.

“I will go up and meet with her, try to find out what she is after and I will try to get her to change her mind,” Ian said.

“Fuck no, you aren’t!” Katherine snapped. “You promised me forever, you are not going to be a sacrificial lamb to your psychotic mother.”

“I have to agree with Katherine on this one,” Sparah said. “She stopped seeing you as her son as soon as you decided to follow in your father’s footsteps. You meeting with her will not make her change her mind, and I don’t think you’re prepared to kill her, are you?”

Ian looked uncomfortable at the assumption.

“That’s what I thought,” Sparah said to his silence. “So I think we have two clear choices. We can wait and see what she does from here, then react as necessary.
