Chapter
Seven
Iwoke from a night of the best sleep arguably, I could say, of my life. I opened my eyes to find I was buried under the silky texture of Brooklynâs oversized bonnet. I was half-asleep when she slipped into the guest room I was staying in. I told her she was crazy and gonna get me killed, but she just giggled, saying she only wanted to cuddle. She was dressed in an oversized CFU t-shirt and tiny sleep shorts that could barely be seen under the shirt. As she promised, she got in the bed with me, placed a kiss on my lips, and snuggled up next to me. With a kiss on the top of her head, we were out in no time.
Last night, after tasting her lips for the first time, we came back into the house to continue family game night. We all decorated gingerbread houses and I got to see the competitive side of Brooklyn. While I had fun, she was serious about decorating our little house. She and her sisters went back and forth, talking shit to each other. But when it was all said and done, Brooklyn and I came out on top. Her mother was the judge and had declared us the winners. Her sisters accused Mama Mae of favoritism and demanded to take the vote to social media.
After the contest, we played a few games of intense Uno before calling it a night. Her dad showed me to the room Iâd be staying in with explicit instructions that I was not to violate his daughter in his house. And if he even thought he heard a peep, heâd come toting the shotgun he slept with.
I had no plans to sneak out to see Brooklyn and definitely no plans to violate her, as heâd put it. When I breached her walls, itâd be anything but a violation. As her father, I could see why he would feel that way, so I just nodded and said good night.
I was lying in the bed, hands behind my head, looking up at the ceiling, thinking about my night with Brooklynâs family. They were friendly and welcoming. They hadnât treated me like some stranger whoâd just showed up with Brooklyn, but as if I were family.
I hadnât met many families, but I didnât date seriously enough to do that. Spending time with Brooklynâs family had me wishing my family could have traditions or were eager to spend time with each other. My parents were embarrassing with their constant arguing and Arielâs attitude was pissy. Nothing about either of those things gave off good times or good vibes.
Now, they were on their way. I had called my mother before I went to bed to invite them over and she hadnât hesitated to say yes. I could hear her shuffling around, yelling to tell my dad that they would get to spend Christmas with me after all. I hadnât known how to feel because I didnât know if it was true that Iâd be missed or if my mother was just being her overly dramatic self.
