We ended up going to a fast care that wasnât too far from my house, and I was immediately happy to see that there werenât very many people there. It didnât take long to get signed in and a few minutes later I was escorted to an exam room with my mama in tow. As soon as the door closed behind us, she immediately started rummaging through the cabinets and drawers. âGirl, what are you doing?â
âUh girl, what it look like? Iâm shopping. Why buy this stuff when they got plenty?â She shrugged, throwing Band-Aids and alcohol pads in her purse. I couldnât even do shit but laugh as she stole everything from Kleenex to sticky notes before sitting down and crossing her legs. It was right on time too, because not even a second later there was a tap at the door and a middle-aged white woman entered.
âHello, Iâm Doctor Graham. I heard you were having some stomach issues? Wanna tell me exactly whatâs going on?â she asked, barely looking up from her notepad.
âUh yeah, Iâve been having some nausea and dizziness. I thought maybe it was food poisoning but once it hit day three I thought it might be a virus. None of the things Iâve taken are helping and I still canât keep anything down.â Not being able to eat had me ornery. Not only was I a foodie but I was also a thick girl, and I didnât appreciate the way my stomach had been acting up on me.
âWell, I can certainly understand your frustration. Now, we can definitely rule out food poisoning since itâs been so many days, but I also donât think itâs a virus either.â She glanced at my mama before shifting her eyes to me. âDo you mind me asking when is the last time you had sex?â
Confused, I looked at her ass like she was crazy before it dawned on me. She thought I was pregnant! Dizziness hit me as I shook my head roughly. âIâm not pregnant. I havenât even had sex in months to get pregnant. Plus, Iâve been having my period regularly.â
âYouâre damn right youâre not!â my mama cut in, garnering a wary look from the doctor who paused before continuing.
âOkay, I hear this a lot and itâs a common misconception, but sometimes bleeding is normal in early pregnancy and women often assume itâs a regular menstrual butââ
âLook maâam, Iâve been pregnant a couple of times in the last few years and I never bled. Thatâs how I even knew in the first place besides my breasts being tender. Morning sickness isnât even one of the symptoms I get.â I cut her off even as my mind wondered. There was no way Iâd spent the last year trying to get pregnant by Deshawnâs ass again to save our marriage only to pop up pregnant during our divorce. The last thing I wanted was any ties to that man, but after suffering through miscarriage after miscarriage, I couldnât see myself getting rid of this blessing.
