“I’m so glad you and Callie got along great,” Cord said as they made their way back home. They had brought the wagon, although Moriah could have walked if she need arose, but walking in this heat might not be such a good idea.

“I did like her,” Moriah admitted. “She’s practical and doesn’t try to put on airs.”

“You know, I thought you were haughty and the type of person to put on airs when we went to the café that first day you came, but I know better now.”

“I don’t know whether to be insulted or not,” Moriah only half-joked.

“You’ve fit into ranch life much better than I ever thought possible. Now, if you’d just commit to me as well.”

She started to tell him that she was getting close to doing just that, but she didn’t want to give him false hope. She needed to do some more thinking and praying to be sure. “I just need some time, and I appreciate you giving it to me.”

He nodded and looked resigned. She appreciated his patience.

Lord, help me to know Your will for certain soon. It’s not fair to Cord to keep him dangling.

She decided she needed to change the subject. “The Walker’s nieces were adorable, weren’t they?”

“They are that,” Cord smiled. “You must like children.”

“I do. I enjoyed volunteering at the orphanage and working with the children. I miss them.”

“Maybe you’ll have some more children to work with someday.”

Did he mean their own children? She dared not ask.
