Cal walked his dad back out to the main house and told him to go to bed. His dad looked exhausted, and Cal knew that he had overdone it. “Night son,” his dad said. He kissed his wife on the cheek and said goodnight to Kaylee on his way up the back steps.

“We should get going. Dad’s worn out and you’ve had a long day too, Mom,” Cal said.

“I am worn out,” his mother admitted.

“Tell Dad to sleep in. I’ll get up in the morning and take care of things. We should get you home,” he said to Kaylee.

She rolled her eyes at him, “Your mother knows about us too, Cal. She figured it out when you texted to tell her that my battery was dead, the first night I stayed with you.”

“You’re an awful liar, even over text messaged, I could tell that you were making up a story to cover your ass,” his mother said. “I’m happy for you both, but I think that you should come clean with your parents, Kaylee,” she said.

“I will, I just need a little bit more time. I’ll tell them after the holidays are over. They just had so many changes around the farm, I don’t need to pile on all of that right now.”

“I’d appreciate it if the rest of the farmhands don’t find out about me and Cal. I have to work with them and don’t need to deal with the constant razzing I’ll get from them if they find out that I’m sleeping with the boss.”

“I hate to tell you this, honey, but some of the guys are already talking. They’re like women with their gossip. I’ll try to stop it, but it might be too late,” Cal said.

“No matter what, Kaylee,” Mrs. Sanders said, “I’m glad that you’re here. It’s nice to have another woman around the farm for a change.”

“Thanks, Mrs. Sanders,” Kaylee said. “I like being here too.”

“Joyce,” she reminded, “you promised to call me Joyce.”

“Night, Joyce,” Kaylee said.

“Good night, guys. Lock up on your way out and for God’s sake, take the pies with you so that your father doesn’t eat them while I’m sleeping.” Cal chuckled and promised to take the pies back to his place. He waited until his mother disappeared up the stairs and turned back to Kaylee.

“Want to eat pie naked in my bed?” he whispered, bobbing his eyebrows at her.

Kaylee giggled and nodded, “On one condition,” she said, “you need to tell me what your father said. Is he good with us being together? He disappeared upstairs so quickly, I worried that he was upset.”

“Not at all,” Cal said, “he was
