“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
~ Buddha
If you’re deschooling, here's an idea: ignore the calendar for now and imagine it's summer vacation. Free from the obligations of school schedules, what would you and your family choose to be doing? Do that. Play lots. Dive into their interests with them. Explore all those places in your neighbourhood you’ve always said you'd visit some day. Drive (or bike!) to the next town over and find the ice cream shop. Bring out all your Lego and build a city. Make a batch of peppermint playdough. Gather and paint rocks. Play games together: board games, card games, video games, online games. Check out the local library. Kick a ball around outside. Get a family membership at the nearest museum or science centre or art gallery and just go and hang out. Build a fort in your family room. Blow up lots of balloons. Water balloons. Read books together. Climb trees. Watch movies. Watch the ones they like over and over.
Watch your children live with joy and abandon. See them learning. Learning outside a classroom. Learning on their own terms.
It's beautiful, yes?
