There Is Life After the Nobel Prize by Eric Kandel

In working on the Brain Series, as in writing for a general audience, I found that explaining why a particular area of science is interesting requires a different part of the brain than just reciting facts. And I really had to work to get this right. Surprisingly, I also found that trying to explain a scientific topic to an audience of nonscientists ended up making things clearer for me. I realized that in some instances I had failed to attend to or, worse still, had not properly understood some scientific point in the first place.
Thus, working on a new talk or a new topic for a general audience is worthwhile on a number of levels, including the educational experience it provides for the person who prepares the talks. This was certainly true for me in the Brain Seriesâand I had a wonderful time with it.
