7.   Leaving a small space of approx. 1cm (3/8in), join the two middle cords with a half knot and repeat steps 3 to 6 to make another diamond (G).

8.   Continue to make diamonds until you have four in total. To finish, bundle the working cords together and fasten with a wrap knot made from the remaining 80cm (32in) length of cord (see Single-Strand Knots), trimming the ends to be the same length (H).

SIX-CORD CHAINS

Six-cord chains have more working cords than four-cord chains and this enables even more interesting shapes to be created from basic knot combinations. Each of the three featured designs teach a shape and knot combination and then repeat it, further building on your understanding of how macramé patterns are formed, and taking you one step further to creating your own wall hanging designs. Each chain begins in the same way, by tying six lengths of cord onto a small wooden dowel using forward lark’s head knots to give you twelve working cords.
