I blink, my eyes adjusting to the morning light, and for a moment, I forget where I am. Then, the memories of last night flood back—the intense passion, the undeniable connection with Jaxon, and the multiple orgasms he coaxed out of me. Wow.

Dreamily, I stretch, feeling sore and glorious.

I turn my head slightly, watching Jaxon sleep. His muscular chest rises and falls in a steady rhythm, his face is relaxed and peaceful. He’s sexy as hell in the dim light, but the weight of what happened sits heavy in my chest.

He didn’t pull out.

I slide out of the bed carefully, not wanting to wake him. My heart races as I tiptoe across the room naked. As I close Jaxon’s bedroom door behind me, a sigh escapes my lips. I’m not sure what I’m feeling—guilt, fear, excitement? It’s a tangled mess I can’t quite unravel.

My dress from last night is on the floor next to the couch and my thong is somewhere in Jaxon’s room. I rush to the guest room and pray that I don’t run into any staff on the way.

In the safety of my room, I head straight for the shower. The hot water cascades over me, but it does little to wash away the confusion. I dress in my usual work attire, a stark contrast to the bold dress of last night.

“Max,” I say, turning to my hamster who’s busy snoozing in his wooden hideaway. “I did something crazy last night.” Max looks up at me as if waiting for the juicy details. “I had sex with Jaxon. Actual real sex!”

Max stares at me and places his tiny paws against the glass. “I know, I know. I’m not supposed to do that, not with Sky’s brother. I’m a walking cliché. Girl meets boy, girl hates boy, girl ends up riding boy’s cock.”

I pour some fresh water into Max’s bottle, add hamster food to his bowl, and give him a piece of lettuce from the mini fridge in my room. “But it’s complicated, Max.”

Max nibbles on the lettuce leaf, seemingly unimpressed with my life choices.

“And now I’m talking to a hamster about my love life, but you’re the only one I can tell.” I laugh, shaking my head.

I glance at my phone. It’s time to leave for work. I grab my bag and wave goodbye to Max. “Wish me luck, buddy. I have a feeling I’m going to need it.”

Thirty minutes later, I’m sitting behind my desk staring at my computer screen. I got to work early for two reasons. One—to avoid an awkward conversation with Jaxon. Two—to avoid my coworkers after last night’s very public brawl. But the main reason I’m early… avoiding Jaxon. I admit it’s cowardly, but I just can’t deal with it this morning.

I stare at my screen thinking about writing an article on the fight at the premiere. Reporting it could boost my career, but it could also hurt Jaxon. And after last night, the lines are blurred. Where do I draw the line between my personal life and my professional ethics?

Today, I’m Claire Hamilton, journalist.
