Perform your reps smoothly. Go as high as possible at the top of each rep, and contract your calves hard for two to three seconds. Descend under control, reach your safe, bottom position, pause for a second without relaxing, then smoothly push out of it. Never bounce at the bottom of a rep.

In all calf work, avoid an exaggerated range of motion at the bottom of the exercise. If you overstretch, youâll lose your foot positioning, and have to re-set, which would mar the set. Descend as far as is comfortable for you without it leading to your feet slipping.
