Chapter Seveneen

Liam

I didn’t recognize the number that was ringing on my phone, but something told me that I should answer it.

“Hello.” I said.

“Oh my God, Liam, they took her, they just took her off the street. I couldn’t even do anything to stop them. It all happened so fast. Oh my God! I don’t know what to do. They just took her.”

The woman on the other end of the phone is hysterical and talking so fast that it’s hard to keep up, let alone know who is calling me.

“Calm down, and first off tell me who this is,” I say, trying to keep my tone even and relaxed so as to not to get her more upset.

“Oh man, I’m so sorry, Liam, it’s Sam. Rachel, I mean, Addison and I were going to meet for lunch and then shopping. Just as she was crossing the street, a black van pulled up and took her right off the street.” Again she says this all in one breath.

My brain shorts out at what Sam is saying. Addison was taken. And not just taken, but taken in broad daylight in front of people. He fucking kidnapped her off the street! This man has a death wish and he just signed his name in gold letters.

I grip the phone so hard I think I hear it crack. My vision goes red and for a moment, and I think that I am going to explode. I have to take several deep breaths to try and bring me back before I can talk to Sam again.

“Liam? Are you still there?” She sounds on the verge of tears and I know that I need to help her as well as Addison.

“Sorry, Sam, okay,” I say, taking another deep breath, “tell me again exactly what happened.”

As she starts to explain again what happened, I fire up my computer and log in. This time I don’t go to my usual tracking apps. No, this time I go deep and dark and start looking in the underworld. I need to find Addison and I need to find her fast.

“I did get a partial plate on the van, and I know that it’s not great, but Zane always told me something is better than nothing.”

This gets my attention. “Good job, Sam. Zane is right, something is always better than nothing. Can you give me what you remember?” I’m trying to keep my voice calm to keep Sam calm, but inside I am on fire. I know that me getting upset is not going to help Sam or Addison, for that matter.

Sam gives me what she can remember and using this information I continue to search for Addison.

“Liam, the cops just showed up, what do I do?” Her voice holds tears and my heart goes out to her. I hated to see anyone upset, but when it is something that is out of your control, the hurt is that much worse.

“You need to talk to them. You need to tell them everything that you saw and what happened.
