Iliocostalis and longissimus

The iliocostalis and longissimus muscles run like two parallel tubes on the lower back, with the iliocostalis lying above the longissimus. These muscles stand for power and strength, making them essential muscles to emphasize when sculpting superheroes or athletic characters.

Make sure you sculpt a lot of asymmetries and break up the shapes into multiple smaller shapes of varying sizes. Muscles rarely show as one clean, continuous shape in real life, so your sculpture becomes more realistic when you incorporate some of these small differences and varied muscle fibers:
