During Ramadan, Rami and his family practiced self-restraint, one of the pillars of Islam.

Followers of Islam were obligated to refrain from food between dawn and dusk.

After sunset prayer, Rami and his family gathered to break their fast with a meal called iftar.

They always started the iftar with dates or apricots with water or sweetened milk.

At the end of the Ramadan fast, Rami and his family celebrated Eid al-Fitr.

Eid al-Fitr was the feast of Fast-Breaking.

This was Rami’s favorite part of Ramadan because he was able to have special baked pastries and wear new clothes.
