Greg held the phone to his ear. “Good job. Now when you find something let me know.”

He closed the phone and then took another sip of his coffee. Ericka had been scrolling through hour after hour of video. The one that was pointed at the lab door had been working for most of the day, but after hours and hours of footage around the time the robbery was supposed to have occurred, they realized there was nothing to see.

Ericka leaned back in her seat. “That’s the end of the tape.” She rubbed her hand down her face and massaged her eye sockets.

Poor Ericka hadn’t slept well since finding the body in the woods. He knew because he wasn’t sleeping well either. They needed to find out who this girl was, and fast.

At least those bones hadn’t been stolen.

“Is Dr. Fisher in attendance yet?”

A uniformed officer answered Greg’s question. “He just arrived.”

“Let’s go see him.”

Ericka rose from her chair steadied herself, thanked the man watching the cameras, and followed Greg out of the room. In the lab, Dr. Fisher had taken the bones from one of the coolers and began to take swabs. Greg and Ericka were required to stay behind the glass so as not to contaminate the specimens. The speaker inside the room was turned on and they could hear the doctor’s description as he spoke.

“The subject is a woman of approximately thirty years of age. The pelvis seems to have birthed several children over the years. It is impossible to tell if all of the births or only some reached full term. The baby’s bones will be compared for DNA with the subject in question.”

The woman could have been Ericka. The same age. The same height. The same build. At least based on what Dr. Fisher was describing.

That meant if the body was Josie, then Rowan had definitely lied to Harrison about her age being fifteen.

“Death appears to be massive blood loss during the loss of a child. A superficial head wound is also noted. However, the depth of said head wound would not be enough to cause a fatal injury.”

There were no more details stated on how the baby was lost. In the field Dr. Fisher had insinuated that the baby had been ripped from the womb, but he wasn’t repeating the words now. Maybe he needed to do further study or he didn’t want to use the terminology in front of a female officer. Whatever the case, ripping a baby out and causing death was vastly different from the baby dying and causing death.

The doctor turned off the recorder as he began to take scrapings. They were collected in glass dishes to be transported to another facility. There was no way Greg was letting those leave his sight.

“Ericka, you stay here. I’ll go with the samples.”

She nodded, but didn’t speak.

Once he was in the car with the person transporting the samples, he called Quinn to confirm the location they were going to. Everything seemed to be on the up and up and the facility was supposed to be top notch.
