This week I start going over to Will Marmion’s house to watch Boston Celtics basketball games. Like Finn, Will took over his mother’s home but with his teenaged daughter, McKenzie, instead of his wife. We sit in the same room in which we played Atari Pac-Man in 1982. I don’t have the energy to talk much. It feels Herculean to be out of the house after dark. I bring snacks whenever I feel energetic enough to go inside the grocery store.

While I’m there, his company and the surprising play of the hungry young Celtics distract me from the hours of rumination I engage in when I’m by myself. Sometimes after the Celtics we watch a movie we know all the words to. When I leave, I feel marginally better. Tomorrow morning I’ll feel like shit, but for a few hours at Will’s I have a little life.
