Participate in Family, Cultural, and Community Events
Community and family events can provide fun and fulfilling opportunities to maintain social connections. From informal backyard barbecues to traditional cultural rituals and festivals, our families and communities are natural places to connect with other people. Share the cuisine, history, and art of your culture by attending culturally themed events with your family or in the community. Check your local newspaper or online media to learn about events around town, or plan your own event. Keep in mind that you can have a sense of community with whatever group of people you choose. For example, if family dynamics or distance make family gatherings an unappealing option, you might instead focus on social events within your religious group or with a circle of friends who have become like family to you. Share a meal, celebrate life events or holidays, or plan a group outing with your social circle, bringing people together based on your common bonds.
