Emotionally-loaded questions
In order to put someone in a specific state, one of the best ways is to ask an emotionally-loaded question.
When they are in the specific state, they will be more likely to be called to action (example: you buy more stuff at the supermarket when you are hungry than when you are full).
If you use the following sentence:
“Imagine you are excited about buying a banana."
Although it could work in specific circumstances, it sounds awkward.
However, directly asking a question forces the other person to go into the required state to answer the question.
