Chapter eleven
Oddly enough, no one thought it was actually his job to take the new spy around and show her the ropes. It was, Ben had to figure, one of the perks of being the newest kid in school. Not that he was now. They had an excellent new Felicia to take on that role, instead of him.
On the great side, she was a real doctor and had extensive genetics training on top of that, meaning that Gene didnât have to struggle to do the job himself anymore. That wasnât a mistake or anything. Heâd been the closest thing they had to someone medical before, after Clyde died. His real training had been in pharma research, which was a different horse all together. That was how Glenda described it to him.
So Lissa was keeping her position as medical helper, and Gene was supposed to move back to full time research, which was what heâd been wanting to do for a while.
Except that everyone was afraid that Lissa was going to melt down again soon and start needing full time help again. Which of course they were all trying to blame on Ben. Every single one of them, except Mags. She kind of thought that Ben was being pretty fair about the whole thing and let all of them know about it. Loudly.
âFuck that! Lissa is being a bitch queen, and treating him like a sub-human. Sure, itâs only in her thoughts, but hey, when you have freaking psychics around that counts! A lot more than any of you seem to get. Asking him to help her, while she throws crap like that at him all the time⦠No. That isnât right. What you need to be doing is talking to Lis and telling her to get her head on right.â Then she punctuated the discussion point by growling, a rather insane seeming sound, and storming off.
Ben had been right by her, but Clark was off working already. Really, it was time for Ben to try and do the same thing, like he had been for the last few days, since Micha had left. Heâd been in morning meditations, and was starting to feel much better, since no new beatings had been applied. The little words that showed up sometimes told him that his healing rate was up to seven and a half times faster than it used to be. Mainly due to him actually having enough food now. Nearly. He was still being careful, but was paying attention to things. That meant eating more protein at each meal, for the time being.
Bethany had actually been called down to the main office, over her use of the recreation facilities to build a database on the new threat. Ben had been worried about her, but the second Glenda was readable to him, after the scolding sheâd gotten from Mags, he was able to relax.
Kyle actually just wanted to get a full copy from her, to send out to other agencies, since her work was better than what they had officially.
