Jasmine
This is another familiar plant family, some of which will grow outside and quite happily tolerate several degrees of frost. Growing them indoors means that they can quickly get out of control, but this does not seem to spoil their short-term popularity stakes. Those grown indoors are good, if rather untidy, climbers, but they are given house room for their long-lasting flowering display, and of course for their scent.
Although neither Jasminum officinale nor Jasminum polyanthum are difficult to propagate, it is especially worthwhile to take cuttings from J. polyanthum because young plants flower so quickly. Do so by taking 3-in (7.5-cm) cuttings from side shoots. Plant the cuttings in 3-in (7.5-cm) pots containing a mixture of dampened peat and sand. Secure the pots within plastic bags and keep in bright light. Rooting should take place within four weeks. The cuttings can then be removed from their protective plastic bags and grown on until the roots have filled the pot. The young plants can be moved into 4-in (10-cm) pots containing a peat-based potting soil.
