“Dad? Can I come in?” I ask as I knock on the door to his bedroom.

“Yes, come in,” my dad says. I open the door, and my dad is sitting on his bed, reading a paper.

“I don’t want to alarm you…” I begin, and my dad stands up.

“What, what is it?” he asks.

“I saw that guy from the woods. He was in the house,” I explain, and my dad springs into action. He types something on his phone and then walks past me.

I follow him downstairs, and he finds Jake right away. He whispers something in Jake’s ear before Jake grabs the microphone and tells everyone that Dad says the party is over. I say goodbye to everyone and see my dad looking through the crowd. Dad tells me to keep an eye out for the woods guy, but I don’t see him. As soon as everyone is gone, Dad rubs his forehead and sighs.

“I will check the whole house to make sure he’s not still here. After that, I will have to go to work. Make sure you don’t let anybody in this house,” Dad says before he starts to walk away. Jake and I exchange glances, and he raises his eyebrows. He’s probably just as shaken up as I am. Who is this guy in the woods, and why is he in our house? I hear footsteps behind me and turn around to find Tyler with a garbage bag in his hand.

“I figured you guys needed help cleaning up,” Tyler says, and I smile at him, all my worries about woods guy disappearing.

“You’re not supposed to clean on your birthday,” I tease, and he grins at me.

“It’s the least I can do after you guys threw me this party,” Tyler insists as the three of us start to clean up.

After a few minutes, the house doesn’t look too bad, but we all decide to call it a night. Jake walks upstairs slowly as Tyler and I sit on the couch.

“I’m sorry for freaking out on Danny. He admitted that he was the one that wrote the note,” Tyler explains as he rubs his eyes. He looks exhausted.

“Ew, that’s so weird.” I crinkle my nose, and Tyler nods. He opens his arms for me, and I lean into him.

“Thank you for a great day,” he says softly as he kisses the top of my head.

I rest my head against his chest and shut my eyes for a second. Before I know it, I drift off to sleep.
