Chapter 16

The next afternoon, Chris walked into Iris’s home carrying a box of white roses. She looked nervous as if she did something bad or forbidden. Iris’s name was scribbled across the top of the box in a red marker. On the top of her couch, Iris was seated with her laptop in her lap, a coffee in her hand, and a sad expression on her face. She didn’t wear any make-up and her working outfit was white and pink pj's. Chris knew that her mission wasn’t easy but hey, she had to do something with this whole crazy situation around the alien guy.

“I heard the news. Are you okay?” No reply. Chris frowned and continued. “ If you wonder how I found out, Adriana confessed and she’s apologizing to you. You’ve been there, to that Starbucks, haven’t you?”

“Yes. I was one of the one hundred girls hoping to grab a coffee and a guy and live happily ever after,” Iris said with a low voice. “Why did she do that? What’s wrong with her?”

“Revenge, my dear,” Chris replied and took a seat on the couch, near Iris. “Klimp rejected her so she made him a public trophy. She also knew that you two left together from the party. Apparently, he asked her about you and she couldn’t take it. You know her…”

“No, I don’t really know her. And I don’t want her apologies and her flowers…”

“The flowers are not from her. It’s Klimp who sent them. ”

“Klimp? Did you two meet? Why is he sending me flowers anyway?”

“You know I’m a lawyer, right? So I pleaded for your cause. Adriana gave me his phone number because she wanted to make things right. So you have to forgive her or at least not blame her so much. The flowers came from Klimp with a dinner invitation. I told him that you won’t refuse it. He’s a very nice guy, guilty of being too innocent.”

“Hahaha! I thought he was busy with all the girls he met the other day at Starbucks. Does he have any free time for me?”

“Don’t laugh at him. He’s really inexperienced in the dating world. Any girl could take advantage of him. Adriana did that and now he’s confused and he has trust issues. After you left the coffee place, a cat fight started. Imagine that! I’m sorry I couldn’t witness it. Anyway, at one point he told all the girls that the only person he wanted to date was you. So they should stop fighting to get his attention, affection, and time. He said that he wanted to get in touch with you but he couldn’t because he didn’t have your phone number or your Instagram account … don’t laugh!”

“He did what?”

“He faced all the other girls and he confessed that he’s only interested in you. He said that you smell so different and he can’t take your image out of his head. Apparently, the girls were impressed by his vulnerability and honesty.”

“Who told you that?”

“Adriana received many messages from the girls that were there.
